Certifications
The purpose of lifeguard training courses is to teach the knowledge and skills needed to help prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion of course, students will receive certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer. Cost includes books, face mask, fanny pack and whistle. Mandatory attendance at all class sessions.
Blended Learning
We also offer Blended Learning Lifeguard Training Courses:
Blended Learning delivery method of the Lifeguard Training Course is intended to be organized so that the instructor candidates alternate between progressing through online learning content and in-person sessions at the Prairie Lakes Wellness Center.
Attendance for all days of the course is required. If you cannot attend all course days, you will need to choose a different course. Classes cannot be split up.
Prerequisites
15 years of age and pass a pre-course swim test.

The purpose of the American Red Cross WSI course is to train instructor candidates to teach children and adults water safety, survival and swimming skills. Upon successful completion of the WSI Course, instructors will be certified to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, 6 levels of Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim, Water Safety Courses and Presentations. Mandatory attendance at all class sessions.

16 years of age; pass pre-course water skills test.

Lifeguarding Review Course allows currently certified lifeguards or no longer than 1 month expired certification to review the content of the Lifeguarding course through an on-line blended learning format and classroom skills check. Upon registration, lifeguards will be emailed a link to watch 7 hours of videos prior to classroom session. Participants must print completion of video segment or take a screen shot to show instructor. If videos are not watched, you cannot attend classroom session.
Participants must be able to show initial American Red Cross Certification indicating Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Certification Requirements:
- Watch on-line video portion
- Pass written test with a minimum grade of 80% or better on each section
- Successfully performs all critical skills
- Must attend classroom session
- Participants must bring personal facemask
Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding Review course will receive new 2 year certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
